This summer, come join the club for the annual Walk With the Dragon organized by the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation! All proceeds will go towards the Foundation to fund their programs and services to help the community; especially women, seniors, youths, and families. This will be a great opportunity to not only support a good cause, but also to meet and have a great time with everyone in YOURS.

Registration

For new participants, please go to here and sign up for a new walker’s account. Once your account is activated, click on “My Profile/Team”. At this point, you are signed up as an individual, so click “Join a team” and select “Association of UBC & SFU YOURS (#151)”. From here on, you will be able see all the members of the team and their fundraising progress.

For returning participants, your Walker profile should be still listed on the team list on “Association of UBC & SFU YOURS (#151)”. If not, please follow the instructions above to join the team.

All participants are to arrive at Lumbermen’s Arch at Stanley Park at 9:30AM on July 11th. Look for the YOURS banner or contact Catherine Yip at 778.859.9860 or Cyril Pang at 778.322.9082. At around 10:00AM, we will be ready with our YOURS banner to join the walk around Stanley Park. We will finish the walk at around 11:00AM and refreshments, snacks, and entertainment can be found near the finish line.

Public transportation is recommended, but for those driving, please arrive at an earlier time as there is limited parking.

Pledges

Pledges can be processed in two different ways, by paper forms or online.

A) Paper Forms

• Forms can be found here and are to be brought to the day of the event to hand in. * Forms can also be found at any S.U.C.C.E.S.S. office.

B) Online

• Log on to your Walker account here.
• Click on “Invite Sponsors”.
• Here you will be able to invite people by email to pledge you for the event. They will receive an email from S.U.C.C.E.S.S. that leads them to a page where they can complete a bank transaction online. You and your sponsor will both receive confirmations email and your progress can be tracked on your profile page.

Speaking with many people who have attempted to learn guitar; most of them start out excited when they buy their first guitar....only to play it a few times and leave the guitar as a beautiful dust-collector.

Kevin Chong will be offering himself to equip you with the basic tools and foundation for playing guitar and to get you over the first hump which turns away lot of beginner guitarists.

He will be going to India with his church as part of BHLC Sharing Hope 2010 on July 23rd and he has decided to use his "trade" to fundraise for the cause and alleviate some of the expenses.

How much?

One-time fee of $30.00 for 4 sessions over 4 weeks.

• These sessions will be from 1-1.5 hours.
• This comes up to $7.50 per session; very reasonable considering music lessons ranges from $20-$50 an hour

When?

• Depending on the number of participants, there may be more sessions scheduled throughout the week

Do I need a guitar?

• Yes, you will need a guitar during the workshops and to practice at home (own or borrowed) to achieve optimal success and results.

What if I don't have a guitar?

• Borrow one, or buy one.

The second installment of our massively succesful DANCEOLOGY2009. You guys wanted it back so here it is. DANCEOLOGY 2010 is a dance competition hosted by YOURS Student Association and Harbour Dance Centre. Uniting all dancers in the breaking, popping, locking, hip-hop, jazz, and junk genre, winners of this competition will be awarded with a grand prize of $1000. This event emphasizes on the local community with all proceeds funded towards Canadian Blood Services

Both rounds will be held at Metrotown this year, so expect thousands of spectators, teams of incredibly talented Dancers who will showcase what it means to dance in Vancouver.

The preliminary round will consist of participating teams who will be evaluated by our expert judges. The top 10 teams will proceed in the finale to compete for $1000 cash.
